A Lufthansa plane carrying 392 passengers on a flight from Frankfurt to Mexico City made an emergency landing in Chicago after receiving a bomb threat.
A spokeswoman for the German airline said the Boeing 747-400, which took off from Frankfurt on Saturday afternoon, was forced to land nine and a half hours into the flight after the threat was received in a telephone call in Mexico City.
"After hours of checks, nothing was found," the spokeswoman said. "We don't know anything about the person who made the bomb threat ... The US authorities are now investigating."
The spokeswoman said the 392 passengers and 19 crew members from flight LH 498 spent the night in a hotel and the plane is due to resume its journey to Mexico City later today.
