KIGALI - Two Rwandans appeared in court yesterday for the first genocide trials in the Rwandan capital but their cases were immediately adjourned.

Court officials said the trial of Mr Silas Munyageshali, a former prosecutor in Kigali, was adjourned to an unspecified date in 1997. The trial of Mr Theodomir Ruzirabwoba, a former administrator in Kigali, was adjourned until January 3rd. Mr Faoduald Karamira, a prominent politician and former second vice president of the Hutu MDR/Power party, did not appear in court.

Meanwhile, Swiss federal police approved the transfer of Alfred Musema, suspected of committing war crimes in Rwanda, to a UN international court trying cases linked to the 1994 genocide. Musema has, been held in Switzerland since, February 1995.
