Gardai plan to visit towns and schools across the country as part of a Christmas road safety campaign.

Multi-media and practical displays called enforcement forums will be given to secondary school students during the month of December.

The Garda Síochana's christmas campaign will operate for a six week period from 27th November 2005 to 8th January 2006 and will focus on four areas; drink driving, speeding, seat belt compliance and vulnerable road users, in particular pedestrians.

According to a spokesman, each Garda district will be headed by a superintendent and will have enforcement plans tailor-made to each area

An average of 270 arrests per week were made during last year's campaign.
