GARDAÍ FROM Tallaght Garda station, Dublin, are investigating the death of a man in a road crash at about 4.30pm yesterday on the N81 at Blessington Road. The car he was driving left the road and hit a pole.

Meanwhile, yesterday a 22-year-old Co Mayo woman died when the car in which she was a passenger struck a village marker stone near her home and veered into a drain. She was named locally as Mary Togher, Aughleam, Blacksod.

It is understood she was being driven home after a night out when her vehicle struck a granite marker stone on the approach to Aughleam at about 5.30am.

It is believed she was flung from the vehicle by the force of the impact.

The driver and another passenger, both male, were injured. They were taken to Mayo General Hospital in Castlebar where their injuries are said not to be life-threatening. Gardaí, who are seeking witnesses, say no other vehicle was involved.
