Mr Victor Murphy (30) with an address at Deanstown Green, Finglas, was found with a single gunshot wound to the head on Dunsink Lane, Finglas.
Gardaí are investigating the possibility Mr Murphy accidentally shot himself while travelling in the front passenger seat of the stolen car and was dumped at Dunsink Lane, where he was found at 5.20 a.m. on Wednesday morning.
A white Mitsubishi Lancer car was found abandoned nearby with blood stained windows and upholstery. The car was stolen on Dublin's North Circular Road last Sunday.
Gardai at Blanchardstown are appealing to anyone who may have information about Mr Murphy's movements or any person who may have been in his company in the hours prior to his death. They released a photograph of Mr Murphy in the hope it would job memories.
Yesterday, officers said they wished to speak to "mothers, wives or sisters" who may have information the other people suspected of being in the stolen car. It is thought they dumped Mr Murphy's body in Dunsink Lane and the vehicle a short distance away.
Anyone with information has been asked to contact Blanchardstown Garda Station on 01-6667000 or on the Garda Confidential Line at 1-800-666-111.
