Gardai were last night questioning a man about the death, apparently from strangulation, of a 65-year-old who was found dead in his home at the weekend.

The dead man was named as Mr John Lees, who lived alone at Vavasour Square, off Bath Avenue in Sandymount, Dublin.

The Garda Press Office said yesterday that Mr Lees was found on Friday last. A post-mortem was held into the possible cause of death but, according to gardai, the results were "inconclusive".

Following inquiries, detectives from the South Central Division led by Supt P.J. Browne arrested a 35-year-old Belfast man yesterday morning. He was being held for questioning under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act at Irishtown Garda station.
