Gardaí in Dublin will begin their bank holiday road safety crackdown today with a particular emphasis on detecting drink driving.
Extra Garda resources will be deployed over the weekend aimed at improving road safety, with road users asked to be vigilant and take all necessary steps to ensure their safety and the safety of other road users.
The campaign will also see the Gardaí mount a series of Mandatory Alcohol Tests (MATS) and Speed checkpoints throughout the city.
Over the St. Patrick’s Day holiday period in 2008 there were 2,656 speeding detections, 530 driving while intoxicated incidents, and 378 non-wearing of safety belt incidents recorded.
