Gardaí are investigating the fatal shooting of a man in Inchicore yesterday. The victim, a 32-year-old man from Coolock, has been named as Declan Griffin. He was known to gardaí and had survived a number of recent attempts on his life.
Declan Griffin died in hospital early this morning when his life support machine was switched off. The attack happened at the Horse and Jockey pub in Inchicore when a lone gunman, whom gardaí believe to be in his 40s, entered the pub and shot his victim once in the head.
It is understood Griffin was recently cleared in court on charges of importing drugs into Ireland.
Gardaí twice foiled an attempt on his life when they intercepted gunmen apparently on their way to kill him.
Griffin was carrying a gun and wearing a bullet-proof jacket at the time of his shooting.
Gardaí say a man went into the pub and and fired a shot at another man who was a customer. The victim was taken to St James Hospital where he died later.
