GARDAÍ ARE investigating the death of an angler whose body was recovered from the Owenea River near his home in Glenties, Co Donegal.

Father-of-three Kieran Ward (50) was found in a deep pool in the river about 200m from his home on the Mill Road on Monday night after a six-hour search.

His body was taken to Letterkenny Regional Hospital for a postmortem examination. He was last seen as he left his home shortly after 8pm on Sunday.

Although Mr Ward was a keen fisherman, he was not carrying a rod or tackle but locals believe he may have gone to check the waters with a view to fishing the following morning.

Garda Insp Sylvester Henry said: “Foul play is not suspected.”
