A female garda sustained injuries to her neck and back yesterday and a second was lightly injured after a car allegedly rammed their car in a head-on collision in Limerick.
The gardaí, who were travelling in an unmarked Garda car, were responding to a 999 emergency alert over a domestic dispute. On entering the Brú na Gruadán estate in Castletroy at about 1pm yesterday, a gold-coloured Rover crashed into their red Toyota Corolla.
Both injured gardaí were taken from the scene by ambulance and treated for shock. Their injuries were described as non life-threatening, but one of the officers was treated for injuries to her neck and back.
Both gardaí were discharged from hospital yesterday evening.
A man who was travelling in the Rover is believed to have lost consciousness after the collision but was in a stable condition last night.
Elsewhere, a man was arrested after a Garda car was rammed by a stolen vehicle in Dublin.
A 25-year-old man was arrested after officers attempted to stop an Audi at Daletree Place in Ballycullen, Dublin 24, at about 10.15pm on Thursday.
The vehicle rammed the Garda car before three men fled on foot.
Gardaí gave chase and one of the men was detained and is being questioned at Rathfarnham Garda station. Gardaí also recovered a gun which is believed to have been discarded by one of the men. Investigations are ongoing.
