GARDAI investigating the murder of Veronica Guerin have gathered security videotapes from shops and filling stations around Naas Co Kildare in the hope of spotting the movements of her killers.
Gardai believe the two men on the motorcycle which pulled up beside her car on the Naas dual carriageway may have followed her from the courthouse in Naas, yet so far no sightings of them in the town have been confirmed.
They may have waited along her route from Naas to Dublin and been informed when she left the court by an associate watching her movements.
One of the men dismounted and fired five shots from a large calibre revolver into Ms Guerin's car, killing her instantly.
Detectives are astonished by the calm manner in which the murder was carried out. It appears the killer fired one, shot into the car to smash the driver's side window. He then leaned into the car and fired four more shots at close range.
Three closely grouped bullets hit the reporter in the left upper chest. Another entered her right lower neck and the fifth hit under her right arm. Gardai say the motorcycle used has not yet been located.
A number of gardai believe they recognised the voice, of a caller to a Dublin radio station on Wednesday night - following the murder - as belonging to a person connected with one of the major criminals Ms Guerin was investigating.
The caller to FMIO4's Chris Barry talk show said. "Its very unfortunate that person had to die today, but she had been warned. She knew what she was getting into, she wanted to make a name for herself, she had been warned on numerous occasions."
Asked if he admired Dublin criminals, he said he did not want to comment.
He added that what happened on Wednesday could happen again. "I can tell you now that there are other people out there who are on a warning."
