Consternation. That was the reaction in certain quarters to last week's report on the new edition of Galway's Good Food Guide. Was De Burgo's of St Augustine Street omitted for any particular reason? Had the new managers entirely lost their heads? We are happy to report that the popular Galway restaurant, which changed hands recently for about £450,000, has not become an exclusive preserve.
It will still be open to the public - or to those members of the public who would like to take out associate membership of the Garda Siochana's new social club. The fee is "nominal", and the same high standard of food and service will be on offer, along with a warm welcome. The new management has retained an excellent chef.
Prospective applicants should contact the manager, Mr Ted O'Shea.
