Gardaí will implement their latest high-profile road safety campaign today in a bid to cut the number of crashes over the June bank holiday weekend.
Thousands of motorists are expected on the roads over the next three days, and the Garda said extra officers will be deployed on roads across the State.
Some 111 people have died on the country’s roads so far this year and during the June break last year four people died in road crashes.
More than 320,000 passengers are expected to travel through Dublin airport over the bank holiday.
Dublin Airport Authority said it expects a 6 per cent increase in passenger numbers on last year’s Bank Holiday weekend.
More than 2,400 flights will pass through the airport including 200 charter flights to popular sun destinations such as the Canary Islands, Turkey and Greece.
