Gardaí will implement their latest high-profile road safety campaign this bank holiday weekend in a bid to increase compliance among drivers.
Extra Garda resources will be deployed over the St Patrick's bank holiday period aimed at improving road safety, with road users asked to be vigilant and take all necessary steps to ensure their safety and the safety of other road users.
Thousands of motorists are expected on the roads over the weekend, and extra officers will be deployed on roads across the State, according to Gardaí.
Over the St. Patrick’s Day holiday period in 2008 there were 2,656 speeding detections, 530 driving while intoxicated incidents, and 378 non-wearing of safety belt incidents recorded.
