Gardaí are appealing to the public for help after a woman was seriously injured when a hijacked lorry collided with the car she was driving.
The truck was hijacked by an armed man last night at around 8 p.m. on the M50 in Dublin near the N2/Ballyfermot junction. The hijacker then made the driver bring the vehicle to Monaghan town.
At around 12.30 a.m. cars travelling towards Dublin from Monaghan town were forced to take evasive action as the driver began driving down the wrong side of the road flashing his lights.
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to either incident.
The driver of the lorry was released in Monaghan and the hijacker took control of the vehicle. Later that morning the lorry was spotted with its container detached and pursued by gardaí.
The lorry collided with the woman’s car at Cashel, Co Monaghan. The hijacker then fled the scene. A Dublin man was later arrested and is being held at Monaghan Garda Station.
The woman is being treated Monaghan General Hospital.
