AN INVESTIGATION was launched in Bandon, Co Cork, yesterday after a man was seriously assaulted during a night out in the town.
A 25-year-old man from west Cork was attacked by a number of other men, some of whom are believed to have been carrying golf clubs as weapons.
The victim, believed to be from Kinsale, sustained injuries to his head and upper body. He is being treated at Cork University Hospital, where his condition is described as stable.
The assault took place at 5am yesterday at Kilbrogan Hill in Bandon.
Gardaí believe there was a row between a group of men from Kinsale and a group from Bandon.
A second man received minor injuries in the altercation.
The scene was preserved for a technical investigation which was carried out yesterday.
Insp Brendan Fogarty is appealing for witnesses and is asking that anyone who may have been in the Kilbrogan Hill, Macroom Road or Allin Square areas from 3am yesterday to contact them on 023-8841145.
