Sergio Garcia is reported to have been fined around £2,000 sterling over his tantrum at the Greg Norman Holden International in Sydney three months ago.
The Spanish Ryder Cup star reacted angrily to being penalised two strokes by the tour's chief referee, John Paramor, for a wrong drop.
The European Tour confirmed this afternoon Garcia "has been fined an appropriate sum for a serious breach of the PGA European Tour’s code of behaviour, in addition to being requested to attend a meeting with representatives of the tournament committee the next time he plays in Europe."
Garcia, two ahead at the time of the incident, was clearly furious. He tried to tell Paramor the rule was ambiguous and as they parted he twice hit a tree with a club and then hit a buggy with it.
He then said: "Hopefully, even with John Paramor's rules and everything, I will be able to win the tournament."
When he lost a play-off to Australian teenager Aaron Baddeley the next day, he said: "Somebody didn't want me to win and he did it."
Guy Kinnings, of the management company IMG, said today Garcia had sent a letter of apology and "wants to lay the matter to rest".
