Gardai are investigating an attack on a Polish national in Clogheen, Co Tipperary. The migrant worker was jumped on by a gang armed with a baseball bat and a knuckleduster.
Gardai said the attack was not racially motivated. The victim was one of six Poles living in a flat in Clogheen, where 17 asylum-seekers are accommodated at the Vee Valley Hotel. The incident happened at about 1 p.m. on Tuesday as the Pole was walking in the village. He fought off the attackers and ran into a nearby flat. Gardai said it may have been a case of mistaken identity.
