Gardaí in Galway are investigating the circumstances surrounding a row at an under-10s Gaelic football match in the city earlier this week in which two parents sustained injuries.
The row occurred during a football "blitz" at Westside pitch in the city last Monday, when local club St Michael's were playing a team from Bearna. Two fathers, who became engaged in a fight, suffered facial cuts and damage to teeth and had to receive medical treatment.
The row was witnessed by young players and parents, and is understood to have arisen over the awarding of a 45 or 45-metre free kick. The game was abandoned and gardaí were called to the scene.
Gardaí at Mill Street station interviewed a number of people at the scene and are keen to speak to anyone with more information.
In a separate development, gardaí in Ballinasloe, Co Galway, are investigating an alleged assault on an official during an intermediate hurling match between teams from Athenry and Kilnadeema-Leitrim last weekend.
The official was taken by ambulance to Portiuncula hospital after the incident, which is said to have occurred as the ball went over the sideline at Duggan Park sportsground.
