Two building projects in Connemara, one by Galway County Council, have been halted because they are in areas of special conservation. Ten days ago work stopped on £300,000 worth of road widening on the national secondary road between Maam and Leenane, and this week an extension to Connemara Golf Course at Ballyconneely was also stopped.
A spokesperson for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht confirmed yesterday that work had been stopped at Leenane after it was discovered that boulders had been taken from within an area of special conservation.
