Munster coach Alan Gaffney has confirmed his interest in signing Australian fullback Chris Latham after Autumn's Rugby World Cup.

Latham (27) is considering joining the Wallaby post-World Cup exodus to enable him to spend more time at a home base with his wife and daughter, who starts school next year.

Munster's Australian coach Gaffney said the province had been involved in talks with Latham.

"I go back a long way with him and he's a friend," Gaffney said this morning. "We've spoken to Chris along with a whole lot of other people who've spoken to him. If he would like to come, of course we'd love to have him".

Munster already have two Australians on the books in former Wallaby Jim Williams and ex-Queensland Reds prop Simon Kerr.

However, under current restrictions limit the Heineken Cup semi-finalists to two overseas players and one of the pair would have to move on should Latham come to Ireland.

Gaffney and Latham were both with Sydney club Randwick in the mid-1990s before Latham left to play in Brisbane with the Queensland Reds.
