THE threat to the long term future of Ferbane power station has been lifted, following yesterday's unanimous decision by day workers to implement new overtime procedures, writes Padraig Yeates, Industry and Employment Correspondent.

The refusal of 30 day workers to accept change, coupled with Ia fire at the plant on Friday night, had raised serious question marks over proposals to invest £11 million in upgrading the 40 megawatt station. However a company spokesman says chief executive Mr Joe Moran will be recommending that the investment package be approved by the ESB board, when it meets on December 10th.

Fire damage is understood to be fairly superficial and the plant should return to full production next week.
