The funerals of two Traveller brothers, one who was shot and the other who died from alcohol poisoning in England, took place in Naas yesterday.
The town came to a standstill at 11.20am when a huge procession, led by a lone piper playing Amazing Grace, made its way down Main Street.
The remains of Paul and Johnny Cash were carried in two ornate horse-drawn hearses behind 12 horsemen wearing top hats and black hunting outfits.
A group of about 30 men dressed in black suits followed on foot. People stood in awe as the procession passed.
The funeral Mass had taken place earlier yesterday morning at Francis Street, Dublin, followed by prayers at the parish church in Naas at 11.30am.
The brothers were then buried in St Corban's Cemetery on the Dublin road.
Gardaí were out in force throughout the day to direct traffic and the proceedings passed off without incident.
Both brothers were living in England. Paul Cash was shot on March 16th and his funeral was due to be held on April 28th in Ireland.
However, it was postponed due to the death of his brother, Johnny, who took his brother's death very badly.
He died of alcohol poisoning and the family decided to hold a joint funeral.
