The funerals of the two farmers whose bodies were found after a fire in Co Carlow last week took place today.
Brothers-in-law George Rothwell (71) and Michael Jordan (51) were found dead on their adjoining farms near Bagenalstown, Co Carlow.
Forensic investigations into the cause of their deaths meant their bodies were released only on Friday night, resulting in a delay to the planned funerals.
Postmortems confirmed Mr Rothwell died as a result of gunshot wounds, which were not self-inflicted, while Mr Jordan died of asphyxiation.
Mr Jordan was buried in Bagenalstown after a funeral Mass in St Andrew's Church this morning.
Mr Rothwell was also buried locally after a Church of Ireland service this afternoon.
Mr Jordan’s wife, George Rothwell’s sister Hilda Jordan, had made the decision to have the two men jointly waked in Bagenalstown, but those plans for Friday evening were put on hold, with the bodies only being released on Friday from Naas General Hospital.
