The funeral took place today in Kilmessan, Co Meath, of the former Fianna Fáil TD, Mr Colm Hilliard, who died suddenly on Monday aged 65.
Mr Hilliard represented Meath in the Dáil from 1982 until 1997, when he stood down. The son of former government minister, the late Mr Michael Hilliard, he is survived by his wife Margaret and four children.
The Fianna Fáil chairman, Dr Rory O'Hanlon, said the party was shocked by Mr Hilliard’s "untimely and early death". He paid tribute to his colleague for his "tremendous dedication to Co Meath" and for his love of sport.
