The funeral takes place today of Dr James K. Walton, who died on Wednesday, aged 79. Dr Walton was a prominent Irish scholar of Shakespearean and Anglo-Irish literature and a half-brother of Ernest Walton, the Irish physicist who won the Nobel Prize for splitting the atom. The funeral takes place at 10 a.m. at the chapel in Trinity College, Dublin, followed by burial at Mount Jerome Cemetery in Harold's Cross.
Dr Walton served as Professor of English at Trinity College from 1969 to 1983 and also held academic posts in India and New Zealand. He also conducted academic research incorporating philosophy, the classics and mathematics. He is survived by his wife, Else, three daughters, two sons and grandchildren.
