The funeral mass of Limerick Civic Trust founding director, Denis Leonard (62), will take place today.
A book of condolences was opened at Limerick City Hall yesterday in memory of Mr Leonard, who oversaw many of the city’s biggest restoration projects.
An early project by Limerick Civic Trust, established in 1983, was the restoration of the Jewish burial ground in Castletroy, described by the late Jewish mayor of Cork, Gerald Goldberg, as a “generous act of reconciliation”.
Other projects included the Bishop’s Palace on Kings Island and the restored Georgian House on Pery Square where his remains lay in repose yesterday.
Mayor of Limerick Cllr Kevin Kiely said he was deeply saddened that Limerick had lost a man who dedicated his life to preserving the city’s architectural environment and heritage.
