. Dr Loosen Riesling 1992 (Mill Wine Cellar Maynooth, £7.99, and James Nicholson).
From a top Mosel producer, this is a lovely example of exhilarating, finely balanced German Riesling very fresh, very dry and very reasonably priced.
. Eitelsbacher KarthauserhoTherg, Kronenberg Kabinett 1983 (Searsons, £9.80). A terrible mouthful in one sense, but a delightful one in another. Proof of how enticing a mature Riesling can be smoky, unctuous, honeyed, and still miraculously dry.
. Wegeler Deinhard Riesling Kabinett 1990 (Mitchells, £14).
This single estate Riesling from well known German producers Deinhard may be rather pricey for garden guzzling, but its complex character makes it a special treat beautifully aromatic, with earthy, leaf notes and with a lovely, tingling finish.
