FREE TICKETS for the headline music acts for the forthcoming Tall Ships festival in Waterford will be available later this month.
With the Tall Ships Races 2011 now just over eight weeks away, organisers are set to release tickets online for outdoor concerts in the city by Bryan Ferry, the Waterboys and Sharon Shannon along with special guests Damien Dempsey and Dessie O’Halloran.
The tickets will be available free of charge from 9am on May 18th through the www.waterfordtallshipsrace.ie website for the Bryan Ferry concert taking place at Waterford’s Bolton Street on June 30th – the opening night of the festival.
The following day, free tickets will be released for the June 30th Waterboys performance, supported by local outfit O Emperor, while May 30th will see the release of tickets for the Sharon Shannon Show, backed by guests Damien Dempsey and Dessie O’Halloran.
The concert tickets, which cannot be sold on, will be limited to two per applicant with measures being taken to ensure multiple pairs of tickets are not allocated to the same people.
In addition to the online ticket allocation which will be done on a first-come, first-served basis, further free tickets for all three concerts will be distributed at John Roberts Square in Waterford from 11am on Saturday, June 4th.
Announcing the ticketing arrangements, Tall Ships project manager Olivia O’Reilly said there was “huge interest” in the free evening concerts. “Given the popularity of the acts, the venue’s central location just minutes from the quayside and the fact that entry is free, we’re expecting heavy traffic to the website on May 18th-20th,” she said.
