A series of free cooking workshops designed for people with arthritis have been announced for eight locations in May. The Arthritis Ireland initiative was introduced after research found that more than half said they had stopped cooking regularly because of the painful joints condition. Some 75 per cent said they found cooking with swollen and inflamed joints painful and frustrating.
The cooking workshops, supported by the Abbott healthcare company, will give tips for easier cooking such as sliding heavy pots across counter-tops rather than lifting them, using ergonomic, lightweight knives and utensils, and taking advantage of electronic tools such as food processors instead of cutting, shredding and crushing ingredients by hand.
