A 39-year-old man who robbed two shops at knifepoint and was involved in a drug-related shooting has been jailed for four years by Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.

The court heard that Thomas Kelly, of Dorset Street Flats, had attacked a storekeeper in the Movie Magic Video Shop, Lower Dorset Street, on October 22nd last year. The following day he attacked a newsagent in North Leinster Street, Phibsborough.

Insp Gabriel O'Gara told the court that a month before, on September 11th, Kelly had been involved in the shooting of Mr Ian Gibbons (29), of Cherry Orchard Crescent.

Judge Yvonne Murphy sentenced him to three years for his role in the shooting, to run concurrently with the four he received for the robberies.
