CUSTOMS officers were questioning three people yesterday after a large quantity of cigarettes, spirits and fireworks were seized in Co Louth. The Customs mobile task force based in Dundalk seized 200,000 cigarettes, 60kg of roll your own tobacco, 60 cases of spirits and a large quantity of fireworks near Dundalk and Drogheda.
The value of the goods was estimated at just over £36,400.
On Tuesday in two raids in the Cork area, 250,000 smuggled cigarettes and 250kg of tobacco, with an estimated total value of £75,000, were recovered.
Customs officers say this followed intensive investigations of over the counter sales of smuggled cigarettes. One person was questioned.
