Four people were killed on the roads yesterday evening. A woman in her mid-50s was killed after being struck by a car as she walked with her two children near Clara, Co Kilkenny. The accident happened around 6.30 p.m. on the main Carlow-Kilkenny Road. The woman was taken to St Luke's Hospital in Kilkenny City, where she was pronounced dead on arrival. Her children were uninjured and were treated for shock at the scene.
Another pedestrian in his 50s was killed when he was struck by a car as he walked on the main Waterford-Cork Road near Dungarvan, Co Waterford. The accident occurred at Kilossera, around a mile from Dungarvan, at 8.20 p.m.
And late last night a man in his 40s was pronounced dead on arrival at Beaumont Hospital after being hit by a van. The accident happened around 11.30 p.m. on the Old Malahide Road opposite the Shell Garage in Coolock.
Earlier in the evening a man in his 40s died when the car in which he was a passenger collided with a jeep near Twomileborris in Co Tipperary. The crash occurred at 5.30 p.m. on the main Dublin to Cork road near Thurles. Both drivers were taken to the County Surgical Hospital in Cashel where they were said to be in a comfortable condition last night.
