San Cristobal - An armed group of men slashed to death four Indians, including a four-year-old girl, in the southern Mexican state of Chiapas, a survivor of the attack said yesterday. Police confirmed the killings, and said they had detained six people, including two women.
The survivor, Mr Juan Cruz Santiago, told local authorities that three men, dressed in black, arrived in the village of Tzacabel pretending to be police looking for some weapons thieves.
Meanwhile the Mexican government is preparing a "new proposal for dialogue" with the Zapatista National Liberation Army, the peace talks co-ordinator, Mr Emilio Rabasa, said.
