Four men were charged today with the murder of a man who was found bludgeoned to death at his home in Omagh, Co Tyrone, yesterday.

The body of Andrew Bannon, in his early fifties, was discovered at his flat on the Mullaghmore estate in Omagh. He had been battered about the head with a blunt object.

Another man found in the flat needed hospital treatment for head, leg and arm injuries. The men charged with the murder will appear before a special court sitting in Omagh later this afternoon.

A woman who was also questioned about the killing was released on police bail earlier.

Mr Bannon had moved back to his home town after spending time living in Dublin. Neighbours and friends, who described him as a quiet man, were shocked by the savage killing.
