A man (28) has been arrested in Waterford city in connection with a seizure of 42 kilos of herbal cannabis.
The man was arrested after customs officers found the drugs addressed as personal effects in four parcels at Portlaoise Mail Depot.
A spokesman said the parcels originated in South Africa. The drugs have an estimated street value of €420,000.
In second seizure today, six kilos of herbal cannabis and 0.25 kilos of cannabis resin were discovered in two packages that arrived by airmail into Dublin Airport.
The packages, which were found by a Customs drug detection dog, had been posted in Poland. The total value of the haul has an estimated value of €60,000.
Three Polish men, all in their twenties, were later arrested in Co Westmeath. They are being held at Mullingar Garda station
