Gardai say there is nothing to indicate foul play in the death of a man whose body was found by the side of a road near Bansha in Co Tipperary yesterday.

A post mortem will be carried out today on the body of Mr John O'Donnell (63), of Kilfeacle, who was last seen in Bansha on Sunday night.

It is thought he may have slipped into a gulley while walking home in heavy rain.

His body was discovered at about 5.30 p.m. yesterday at Templehurney, on a road linking the Tipperary-Cashel and Tipperary-Waterford roads. Gardai were alerted and the body was removed St Joseph's Hospital in Clonmel.

It is understood Mr O'Donnell lived alone. Supt Michael Murray of Tipperary said the incident was being investigated but there was nothing "at this point" to indicate foul play.
