Italy's triple Olympic skiing champion Alberto Tomba was acquitted of allegations of tax fraud by a tribunal in Bologna today.

The sum involved was 11 million euros (9.5 million dollars).
Public prosecutor Enrico Cieri had requested a 12-month prison sentence for 35-year-old Tomba, the slalom specialist considered one of the greatest alpine skiers of all time.
