Former Green Party councillor Bronwen Maher has joined the Labour Party.
Ms Maher became an Independent in January after resigning from the Green Party, claiming that in Government it has become a “centrist lifestyle-lite Green party” with which she no longer felt a connection.
She lost her Dublin City council seat in the June elections.
“Bronwen Maher’s decision to join the Labour Party I think first of all confirms that the Labour Party is broadening its base, its membership base and its electoral base,” Mr Gilmore said.

Mr Gilmore said Ms Maher, who is based in Clontarf, Dublin, would co-chair a policy group with the party’s environment spokeswoman Joanna Tuffy.
Ms Maher expressed admiration for Labour’s economic policies.
