A FORMER Shamrock Rovers footballer, coerced into carrying £7,000 worth of ecstasy for a drug dealer, has been released from an 18-month sentence. The Circuit Court President, Mr Justice Spain, noted that John Bennett had made extraordinary progress" in prison. Bennett (27), of Rosemount Estate, Dublin, admitted having the ecstasy for supply on February 2nd last and was jailed by Mr Justice Spain at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court in May Mr Michael O'Higgins, defending, said his client was coerced into carrying the 400 tablets as a week earlier he had "lost" 50 ecstasy tablets when stopped by gardai.
