Diego Forlan will complete his Stg£6.9million move to Manchester United from Independiente next week.
United have completed the paper work of the deal and checked the details of the Uruguayan striker's Italian passport.
Forlan, 22, who watched United's 2-1 win over Blackburn at Old Trafford, is due to have his medical on Monday and if all goes well he will be registered for the Champions League next week.
United manager Alex Ferguson said on MUTV: "Everything is agreed.
"He will have his medical on Monday, his passport details have been checked and he should be registered by the end of the week."
Forlan will not be eligible for United's FA Cup tie next Saturday against Middlesbrough - the club he snubbed to join United. He should be available for United's match against Bolton on January 29th.
