Glasgow - A Scottish former soccer professional may launch a new appeal for disability payments amid fresh evidence that repeatedly heading the ball can cause brain damage, his lawyer said yesterday.
Billy McPhail, a player for Glasgow Celtic in the 1950s, lost an appeal this year to prove his symptoms of pre-senile dementia were caused by head injuries sustained during his career. A report in New Scientist magazine said scientists at the University of Florida concluded soccer players could be suffering brain damage from repeated blows to the head - much like boxers.
