London - Cooks may soon be able to test their ingredients for food-poisoning bacteria using a simple kitchen appliance, a British science journal said yesterday.
Researchers at a Japanese company, Matsushita Electric, said its experimental system can detect and measure the population of pathogenic bacteria, like salmonella, in a food sample in around 10 minutes, the New Scientist said.
Last year, Japan was wracked by a spate of food-poisoning outbreaks. This prompted Matsushita to develop the appliance.
