A MAN who was jailed for attacking exam pupils with a flame thrower in Holywood, Co Down, has stomach cancer.

Garnet Bell (47) was given six life sentences at Antrim Crown Court last year, four for attempted murder, after attacking final year students sitting A level exams at Sullivan Upper Grammar School. Some were badly burned.

He later went on the run in the Republic, but eventually surrendered. Bell said he had harboured a 30 year grudge against the school because of alleged poor career guidance.

He has had a series of chemotherapy sessions at a Belfast hospital.
