Five people remain in custody this evening after gardai in Co Galway made what they said was a "significant" seizure of commercial explosives in an operation targeting organised crime.
The seizure of 17.5kg of explosives was made yesterday by gardai from the Galway West division and national support units, a Garda statement said today.
"The gardaí are treating this seizure as significant," it added.
The four men and one woman are currently in custody in various stations in Co Galway.

They range in age from 25 to 33, and all are being held under the provisions of Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act 1939, the Garda statement said. They can be held for up to 72 hours.
