THERE have been five applications from senior officers in Northern Ireland and Britain for the post of chief constable of the RUC.
Interviews for the post which is being vacated by Sir Hugh Annesley in November will be held in late August.
Of the five applicants, two are from the RUC while the other three are senior officers with forces in Britain, the Northern Ireland Police Authority reported.
An Authority spokesman refused to reveal the identities of the applicants although it is thought the two RUC applicants may be the current deputy chief constables, Mr Ronnie Flanagan and Mr Blair Wallace.
The Authority also announced yesterday the appointment of two RUC assistant chief constables (ACC) Mr Daryl Beaney (53), currently an acting ACC, and a native of Northern Ireland who has served over 30 years in the RUC and Mr Ian MacDonald (45), from England, who has served most of his career with the Merseyside Police, achieving the rank of chief superintendent.
