Hartford - A Connecticut tax inspector has become TV's first millionaire - winning the jackpot in the US version of the Who Wants To Be A Millionaire quiz show.
Mr John Carpenter's million dollars prize (£625,000) made history as the single largest cash prize ever won by a single person on a television game show.
Mr Carpenter won when he correctly answered the question, "Who was the American president who appeared on Laugh-In?" The answer was Richard Nixon, who appeared on the show in the late 1960s.
