Tourists who were due to go to Turkish resorts with tour operator Sunworld over the weekend and who cancelled after the bomb attack have been offered a full refund.
Sunworld spokeswoman Geraldine Daly said in Dublin yesterday: "I can confirm that anyone who does not travel this weekend will be offered a full refund."
She said many travel agents were probably closed over the weekend. Anybody who was unable to get in touch with an agent, and so was unable to cancel, would be able to go in today and receive the refund.
"This also applies to people who perhaps just did not turn up at the airport for check-in because they were unable to contact anyone."
Ms Daly said a decision had not yet been made about people who had booked holidays later in the summer and wanted to cancel.
She said they always followed the advice of the Department of Foreign Affairs, which was to be cautious and vigilant, but it had not advised against going to Turkey.
There had been some cancellations but quite a few people had deferred holidays and were still going to Turkey later, she said. Sunworld has a helpline for those concerned about anybody in Turkey or who have travel plans to the region. The number is 01 881 4300.
She said there had been a number of calls from people concerned about relatives and friends, but most had made direct contact by mobile phone.
She said the main concern was for the family of bomb victim Tara Whelan, and for people who were returning from Kusadasi. She had been in touch with the family but could not say whether any family members would be going to Kusadasi. It is believed about 1,200 Irish tourists travelled to the region with Sunworld.
