Several boxes of firecrackers exploded on an Indonesian bus today, killing 12 people and badly burning 16 others.
The explosion destroyed the bus near a town on the northern coast of West Java province, 200 kilometres east of Jakarta.
Police said it was unclear what caused the firecrackers to explode. They had been stacked up the back of the bus and belonged to a passenger.
The bus driver and two conductors survived the blast.
