A fire has raged through the historic Cannery on Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco, bringing the roof and top floor of the 95-year-old structure close to collapse, fire department officials say.
The fire broke out just after midnight local time on Sunday, according to Mr Pete Howes, a captain with the San Francisco Fire Department, and was mostly contained in about three hours, though it is still smouldering and being watered down.
"We still have it as contained but not under control," Mr Howes said. As many as 170 firefighters were working on the blaze at one point, he said.
Mr Howes added that while the fourth floor and roof were near-collapse, "the structure is externally intact" and not endangered.
There were no injuries reported, Howes said, and the cause of the fire is still unknown.
